So what’s the job?
As the PaaS development Team Leader, you have responsibility for the team undertaking the development of PaaS services and products undertaken in the UK. This is a rare and fantastic opportunity to take a 50/50 hands-on development/leadership role driving a highly focussed software engineering team in bleeding edge product development.
Your team comprises an expert team of architects and software engineers focussed on building multi-tenanted platform services that enable modern software use cases based around Kubernetes and Cloud Native infrastructure. Currently very R&D oriented, the team are working on the first of several services to build out the PaaS portfolio within the IONOS Cloud.
The current roadmap reflects this with the team targeting the development of the following products:
- Container Registry Service
- Managed Container Hosting Product
- App Engine Product
As you deliver these products into production your team will take full lifecycle ownership and support responsibility for the underlying systems and customer experience. This means handling defects, customer support (internal and external) and proactive improvement activities for the fully automated, self-service product systems.
You and your team will work side by side with the PaaS Engineering team to build the overall platform and product stacks. Together you will identify appropriate open-source projects to utilise as well as drive the engineering of PaaS tier services on top of the group K8s and IaaS platforms.
You will work closely with group commercial product management and local product owners to evangelise and prioritise the product use cases and champion the technical approach whilst collaborating to integrate the commercial optimization of the services as they come ready for production.
You will utilise and constantly evolve agile practices to drive team activities whilst ensuring functional and non-functional quality is achieved in all team deliveries. You will deliver quality software architecture through team design processes and collaboration with the Head of Engineering and Lead Architect.
Working in a highly autonomous, multi-disciplined software engineering function and undertaking fast-paced developments across multiple technology platforms, This position would suit an experienced, hands-on Team Leader / Manager with a solid understanding of the software development craft, architecture design, and agile delivery processes looking for the next step in your leadership development.
What experience do you need under your belt?
The PaaS Development Team Leader will have a background in high-scale software development. You will have a deep understanding of software engineering craft, architecture design and agile delivery processes. You will have experience in a comparable role or will be a highly experienced software professional with proven leadership skills looking for the next step in your leadership development.
Important
- Strong Technical Leadership and people management skills, including setting clear goals, objectives and expected behaviours, agreeing on development plans and regularly reviewing performance
- Significant prior experience in software engineering, including developing systems in many different technologies, and with demonstrable experience across the stack, from front-end to back-end systems
- Experience in leading agile delivery processes (Scrum, Kanban, etc)
- Strong understanding of system design, software architecture, and software engineering standard methodologies, especially well versed in CI/CD
- Strong understanding of what the DevOps and GitOps mentality is about and how it advises ways of working and technical ownership
- Solid understanding of secure coding practises and security considerations for web-facing software/systems
- Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills
